Starting position.
Raise rod up slightly. Extend forefinger to pickup the line from the roller.
With line on the tip of your finger, turn reel handle so that the pickup is at the bottom (out of the way)
With pickup at the bottom now and out of the way, and the line on your finger, make your cast.
To retrieve the line, put your forefinger on the rim of the spool, draw the rod upward to remove slack from the line and catch the line with your forefinger.
If you have a lot of slack in the line, you may have to slide your hand up the rod to pickup the line.
With slack out of the line and the line resting against your finger.
Move your hand back closer to the foot, turn the handle and it will pick up the line.
Still holding the line with your finger, reposition the reel so that the reel stem is between your middle and ring fingers. Now the line should be far enough back for the MPU to catch the line when you turn the handle. Start winding.
