This was the first issue of the 402. Being faster than it's brother, the 302,with a retrieve ratio of about 5 to 1, it is very popular among lure fisherman because it allows for a faster retrieve, therefore allowing more casts while the fish is in range. The down side is that if the reel is not properly maintained and if the line size is heaver than 20 lb., you are more likely to strip the gears, with a big fish on, than with the 302. Here in North West Florida along the Gulf Coast, 60 to 80 lb. fish are still being landed with 302's and 402's. This is, by far, the second most popular "big fish" reel among Gulf Coast Pier Fishermen and is second only to the 302.
A Not a difficult reel to find, but a little tough to find NIB.
