The first year the 386 was issued. This reel was distributed in Europe by Balzer. There is no Balzer marking on this reel, but the warranty card indicates Balzer. The 386 was also distributed by Garcia in the USA with a different box and a "foil Garcia sticker" on the reel. 

When the Old favorite of the Saltwater Fisherman, the 302, was discontinued in 1972. Mitchell had hoped that the 386, which was already in production, would take up where the 302 left off. Wrong! It did not catch on in the USA. So, in 1975 the decision was made to rename the 386 the 302N.  The "N" meant "NEW". It did not catch on either. The 386 and 302N never regained the market share that the 302 once enjoyed. 

A fairly easy reel to find in Europe, but getting difficult to find NIB or MIB.
